Collections
This collection will consist of non-fiction biographical comics/graphic novels. All the items in our collection will be a physical copy. Comic books/graphic novels convey a message from the author differently than a normal book may convey it. Using visual aids provides a different perspective for the reader. This collection is for teachers who want to supplement their curriculum with different approaches to readings, students who prefer visual presentation and first hand accounts, and anyone else interested in learning about history in a new form.
The specificity of the collection was chosen to bring more awareness to books dealing with real life events using first person accounts not commonly found in textbooks. Many of these items are alternative means of learning about events not typically taught in school in an unbiased way (i.e. Slavery, Japanese Internment, Black Panther Movement). The items in this collection have been chosen through a selection process focusing on patron engagement, as well as books that have won awards and
garnered critical acclaim.
The collection will be reviewed yearly to replace any damaged books and to make sure that the items are still relevant and circulating. New books that fall into the category of non-fiction biographical comics/graphic novels will be reviewed before purchase and integrated into the collection. New books will be acquired through local bookstores or reputable retailers.
